Quote

Prayers of thanksgiving are appropriate for groups of worshipers, but the prayer of the soul is a personal matter.” 146:2

Lesson

Thought Adjuster: “The above quote caught your attention. Indeed, group prayers can be powerful by adding exponentially to the intensity of the worship. They turn its volume up, so to speak. Yet, the solo voice of a sincere individual prayer is a powerful and empowering soul expression, in need of a private setting — it is a most intimate and confidential conversation between the soul and its Spiritual Adviser. Secrets are not meant to be shouted from rooftops.

“A group abides by a set of pre-agreed rules and regulations in order to effectively be in alignment with the intentions it has set for itself. Each participant learns to blend in. Yet, each soul needs to spend quality time in private with Spirit in order to bare itself — to honestly reveal what it feels and experiences in its unique life trajectory.

“Such a baring of the soul has to happen in an appropriate setting. The sharing of intimate details about oneself best occurs in the silent sanctuary of the heart — not in the louder setting of group worship. Both have a meaningful purpose: Group worship meets the need for community outreach while individual prayer strives for honest and liberating soul expression and communion with its Divine Origin, as well as for much needed feedback.

“Set time daily to articulate behind closed doors what you feel ‘soul-deep.’ What are you longing for? What do you envision for yourself? What troubles you? What makes you happy? What do you feel passionate about? Gradually, you will get reacquainted with your true self through this brutally honest process of soul searching. Spirit will act as a tuning fork.

“Day after day, you will get in touch with the voice of your soul — a small and hesitant voice at first as it has not been given much of an opportunity to freely express the self. Yet, under the loving and attentive guidance of your Indwelling Guide, you will become more adept at honestly speaking your ‘soul mind’ and this process will be quite liberating. There is much that individuals suppress in their interaction with others and much as well in their interactions with Spirit. Spirit does not wish for you to act ‘holier than holy’ and to cover up your many emotional bruises with a fake veneer. Spirit wants for you to be authentic as it will always meet with you in Truth.

Closing

“Such is the purpose of your life — to uncover more and more of your authentic selfhood and to gently express it. Find your soul voice, dear ones. Train it daily. It may be scratchy at first, but through your daily practices, it will become more confident and find its own beautiful ring of truth. This is when it will contribute harmoniously to a group setting where voices blend together in a marvelous chorus meant to be heard beyond time and space. There is a much needed balancing act between both practices.”
